toronto after dark quick views/reviews

toronto after dark

i don't have much time so this will be short, i hope to expand upon some of this later.

saturday was a busy day!

it started with the horror short film program ("cutting edge horror"). this was a mixed bag, as one might expect. i was especially impressed with two of the animated shorts, dear beautiful and from inside (which is apparently based on a graphic novel, i might have to look that up). the morning after was gorily amusing, wok was pretty good, but it came from the west (the zombie puppet western from denmark (!)) was in some ways a bit disappointing, but it's going to be made into a feature film, so perhaps that will be better as they will have more time & budget. the rest was kind of eh.

in the name of the king: a dungeon siege tale, uwe boll's sword-and-sorcery epic based on the computer game, was not very good. on one hand, it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, and is a bit better than the dungeon and dragons movies... and the production values overall were excellent (it looked like a big budget movie). but for the most part, this LOTR rip-off was kind of bland and boring. i've got a lot more to say about this movie and the director, but that will have to wait till later :)

blood car, on the other hand, was awesome. if you do get to see it, keep in mind that it's a debut film made on a very, very low budget... the whole thing is a bit bumpy but i found it incredibly funny. i was howling with laughter for almost the entire movie. very bloody and audacious.

sunday: i ended up missing everything on sunday. it was just one of those days.

tonight: i am off to see the rebel. it looks good. more later!

Sounds like your Saturday was much like my Sunday! Very full!

It was great to hear the lowdown on the horror shorts, I didn't have a chance to see them. I will have to keep the the zombie puppet western from Denmark on the radar for when it becomes a feature, that sounds like it could be fun!
